Despite not having their leading scorer, the Northside Grizzlies continued to take care of business in 7A-Central play.

The conference-leading Grizzlies posted a big road win at Conway on Tuesday, 51-45, as they remain in sole possession of first place.

Northside (19-6, 10-1) was playing without the services of senior point guard and leading scorer Isaiah Joe, who was out with a concussion that he suffered during Friday’s home win against Little Rock Catholic.

But the Grizzlies still were able to pick up the slack with Joe out. One player who came through was sophomore Noah Gordon, who led Northside with 17 points, 12 coming in the second quarter. He also hit four 3-pointers.

Anthony Travis also hit double figures as he finished with 11 points. Kentrell Jacobs added nine points and made two 3's.

Northside also out-rebounded Conway, 37-23. After both teams scored 14 points in the first quarter, the Grizzlies outscored the Wampus Cats in the second, 18-6, to take a 32-20 lead at halftime. Northside also went up 39-26 at the end of three quarters.

The Grizzlies return home on Friday to take on North Little Rock.

Conway 51, Northside 45

GIRLS — The Lady Bears were defeated on Tuesday at Conway, as the Lady Wampus Cats avenged a two-point defeat to Northside last month.

Conway hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the third quarter to break a 35-all score. Then, Conway hit two more 3's to start the fourth quarter as the Lady Wampus Cats opened up a 46-37 lead.

Northside (21-3, 9-2) was able to get within two late, 54-52, when Sara Bershers hit a 3 with 9.7 seconds remaining. But Conway salted away the game with a pair of foul shots.

Tracey Bershers finished with 18 points, while Sydney Green added nine points.
