Northside dropped its third straight game as the Grizzlies were defeated at Cabot, 35-23, in 7A-Central action on Friday.

The Grizzlies (5-4, 2-4) can still get a first-round home playoff game with a win at Mayo-Thompson Stadium next Friday against crosstown rival Southside.

Southside is currently fourth in the conference, while Cabot (4-5, 2-4) and Northside are tied for fifth. Cabot plays at 7A-Central leader and No. 1 ranked North Little Rock next week.

Northside quarterback Derrick Wise completed 12-of-18 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns, both coming in the second half to receiver Preston Baugh, covering 18 and 5 yards.

Wise added 81 yards rushing on 23 carries, including a 1-yard TD run midway through the first quarter to put Northside up, 7-0.

Cabot tied the score late in the first quarter before the Grizzlies regained the lead, 10-7, on a 27-yard field goal from Henry Hernandez with 10:32 left until halftime. But it was Northside’s last lead, as Cabot scored two touchdowns to take a 21-10 lead at halftime.

The Panthers later built a 28-16 advantage with more than six minutes left in the game before icing the win with an interception return for a touchdown nearly a minute later. Cabot came up with four interceptions on the night.
